Dr. Ralph Simpson

Dr. Ralph L. Simpson is a seasoned educator and influential leader who has dedicated his career to transforming educational environments. Born on December 14, 1963, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Roxie and Henry Simpson, he emerged as a trailblazing figure in the field of education. Driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact, Dr. Simpson commenced his journey in 1991, venturing into the realm of education.

 

Recognizing the importance of effective leadership, Dr. Ralph Simpson embarked on a continuous journey of academic pursuit. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice from West Georgia College in 1986. After gaining practical experience with the Georgia State Department of Corrections, he felt a calling to the field of education. Dr. Simpson transitioned into teaching within the DeKalb County School District, where his talent and dedication flourished. His success as a teacher, mentor, and leader set the stage for a remarkable career trajectory.

 

Fueling his commitment to excellence, Dr. Simpson returned to West Georgia College to obtain a Master of Arts degree in administration and supervision. In 1996, he ascended to the role of assistant principal of discipline, instruction, and attendance at Miller Grove Middle School in Lithonia, Georgia. His impact continued to grow as he assumed the position of assistant principal of discipline at Stone Mountain High School in 1998. In 2000, Dr. Simpson made history by becoming the first African American principal in history of Stone Mountain High School.

 

A pivotal moment in Dr. Simpson's educational journey occurred in 2004 when he achieved the pinnacle of academic recognition – a Doctorate of Education in Supervision and Leadership from the University of Sarasota. Armed with his extensive educational background, Dr. Simpson took on the challenge of leading Miller Grove High School, the largest high school in DeKalb County, Georgia, as its first principal. Under Dr. Simpson's dynamic leadership, Miller Grove High School experienced elevated expectations for both teachers and students. However, it was Dr. Simpson’s appointment as principal at Towers High School where the school achieved remarkable double-digit growth in academic success, solidifying Dr. Simpson's reputation as an inspiring and results-driven transformational leader.

 

Currently an esteemed member of the Clayton County Public School family, Dr. Simpson is poised to continue his mission of inspiring, encouraging, and motivating leaders at all levels. A believer that you have to “Reach before your Teach”, Dr. Simpson is proponent of Restorative Practices, certified in Trauma and Resilience, and led the school district implementation for Social Emotional Learning.  Engaged in various professional and public service organizations and a 2019 graduate of AASA’s Superintendent’s Academy,  Dr. Ralph Simpson stands as a beacon of excellence and a catalyst for positive change in the realm of education.
